It was the best of weeks, it was the worst of weeks…
Right on the tail of Monday’s wonderful news that my wife, Maria, was approved for surgery by our insurance, on Thursday morning she called me from work to tell me she’d been fired. Just like that. After working for the company for almost a decade; after continously taking on more duties without more compensation; after myriad expressions of gratitude, nay, adoration from the employees in the field (not in the office) whom were supported by her work; after all that, her boss ignominously fabricated a story to get rid of her. Despite the lack of any hard evidence, despite no more compelling reason for termination to put in writing than “job performance,” she was dismissed, without provocation, without warning. She was simply informed mid-morning, told to clean our her desk immediately, and escorted out of the building.
It’s unreal.
We’ll be OK, but that’s all I can really say. She’ll still have the surgery, and it will still be covered. Now she won’t have to worry about rushing back to work afterwards, at least.
There is justice in this world, even if it’s sometimes slow in fruition. It will be served on the slanderous individual(s) responsible. I’m just glad she no longer has to work in such a poisonous environment.

Hey… my comments aren’t appearing on your site, are you getting them?
I’m so completely shocked… I can’t believe they fired her. I just can’t believe it. Maria is just so hard-working and incredible and I don’t know how she works all the does and takes care of the kids so well… I’m flabbergasted. I’ll give you guys a call soon but I am so, so sorry to hear this.
I’m computer-less for a while but I’ll talk to you later.
What a rollercoaster ride! Hopefully, it’s a blessing in (a thin) disguise and she’ll be able to find something much better once she’s recovered.
OMG I wish you’d told me–I have been offline you know. Online maybe Monday.
